My name is Nyah Phengsitthy and I was a co-editor-in-chief of Harrisonburg High School’s newspaper publication, The Newsstreak, and website, HHS Media in the 2018-2019 school year. This website was my portfolio submission for the 2019 JEA National Journalist of the Year Competition. It showcases my work throughout my high school journalism experience.

While I shared my editor-in-chief  position with seven other seniors, I heavily focused on the audience engagement of HHS Media through social media and our website. My coverage ranged from everyday feature stories of humans of HHS to investigations of the child pornography Snapchat accounts going around my school.

In 2019, HHS Media was named a CSPA Crown finalist for hybrid news, earned 20 Best of Sno awards and has been named a finalist for the 2019 NSPA Online Pacemaker

From the monthly papers to everyday coverage for the website, Newsstreak took over my life. Much of my time was spent doing Newsstreak related tasks, and I feel honored to say I strongly invested into this one activity throughout my four years of high school.

While this portfolio showcases a variety of my work, I didn’t include everything. To read more pieces written or taken by me, click here.
